Recreation plans provide a 5-year framework to municipalities for decisions regarding the establishment, development, and maintenance of recreational programs and facilities. These plans include a study and assessment of current facilities, input from the public, and an action plan with goals and objectives including time frames and cost estimates for prioritized projects. In addition to being a significant guide for community recreation, the Michigan Department of Resources requires a municipality to have an approved plan on file prior to applying for grant assistance.
